Run for a Reason

The Madison Station Half-Marathon has partnered with these three outstanding local charities! A portion of the race proceeds will be distributed evenly to these charities, and participants will also be able to donate additional money through this website.

The Good Samaritan Center is a private, non-profit social service agency servicing families and individuals who are experiencing both acute and chronic crises. They are funded by churches, private contributions, charitable gaming, resale stores, charity races and in-house fundraising. The Center was started in 1972 under the direction and financial support of seven Jackson churches. Since that time, The Good Samaritan Center has grown to include a main office in Jackson and a branch in Laurel, Mississippi which hosts the only soup kitchen in Jones County.

The Good Samaritan Center’s mission is to assist families and individuals in emergency situations. Their motto is “if we can’t help, we should know (or be able to find out) who can.”  Their case management team also works hard to possess a very thorough knowledge of what emergency services and funds are available throughout our community.

At Webster Animal Shelter, the City of Madison’s goal is to provide a home for all the puppies and dogs, cats and kittens that are in the city’s care. The no-kill shelter, at 525 Post Oak Road, is a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled environment that actively works to place rescued pets in adoptive homes.    Prospective owners will need to fill out a pre-adoption form to take an animal home. The adoption fee is $100 for dogs and $75 for cats. The fee helps to provide for the continued support of the center so it can provide rescue services for abandoned and neglected animals.

Under the guidance of the Madison Police Department, the shelter relies on volunteers to help care for the animals by walking the dogs, playing with the cats, cleaning cages and other tasks on an as-needed basis. To volunteer, contact the shelter.
